Simulation in Education

My new blod topic for the second half of the semester is going to focus on simulation in education. Some of you may wonder; what is simulation?
Simulation is the imitation of something real. It can imitate a process, event that will take place, or many other state of affairs. Simulation is used for a variety of different reasons and in a number of different professions. Some examples include, technology, training, testing, video games, etc.

Do you have any experience with simulation?

  1. I recently posted this on another person's blog (I believe it was Vissunee's), but in college, my archaeology professor had developed a simulation he called "Virtual Dig." It used images from a real site in France, and you could "dig" to get to the artifacts using a backhoe, a large shovel, a small trowel, and a small brush. It was a way to explore things that were thousands of years old without having to leave the house- very cool!

  3. Hi Ashley,

Like Leah, I have never done a simulation and I agree with her that it does seem like an interesting blog topic. The "Virtual Dig" that Leigh described seemed really cool. I wish so of my SU instructors would do stuff like that because it seems to help make a topic more interesting and engaging. I look forward to reading more of your future postings on this subject.

  4. Hi Ashley,
I don't have any experience with simulations except with Sim City, a game my son used to play.
I'm looking forward to learning about this intriguing topic through your blog.
